Support for delivery of fruits and vegetables to pupils in general education institutions (School fruit)

European Commission programme “School Fruit” is a way for member state to ensure pupils with free fruits and vegetables by using its own and European Union budgetary resources, and purposely increase consumption of these products as well as promote healthy eating habits among students.

The programme “School Fruit” meets objectives of the CAP – promote income of the people employed in agriculture, stabilize the market, ensure the availability of the offered products now and hereafter, as well as ensure that young consumers of fresh fruit and vegetables like these products and use them in every day nutrition more often in the future.

The purpose of the programme is to promote the consumption of fruit and vegetable products and to reduce health care costs due to obesity, cardiovascular disease in the future.

Distribution period for fruit and vegetable products in year 2016/2017 is from November 1, 2016 until February 17, 2017.

During the support period, pupils receive fruits and vegetables three times a week (apples, pears, large cranberries, cabbage, carrots, horns, pumpkins) or their assorted portion.
