Invitation for children to participate in the competition “From seed to table”

How does seed grow? How to care for the plant? How certain plants can be used in cooking? These are just some of the questions children will look for at the pre-school educational institutions in Latvia and will find answers!

The Ministry of Agriculture, the University of Agriculture and the Rural Support Service of Latvia organize a contest “From Seed to Table” within the framework of European Commission programme “School Milk and Fruit”. The contest will take place from March 20 to May 28, 2019. Winners will be announced on June 7, 2019.

The aim of the contest is to raise the awareness of pre-school children about the process how the plant grows, what it requires to get healthy products, as well as to pay attention to the implementation process of the programme “School Milk and Fruit”, the importance of healthy eating and developing self-expression, self-initiative and creativity in children.

In March, pre-school educational institutions receive “Plant boxes” (seeds, soil, box) along with a leaflet on seed growing. During the contest , children together with teachers sow, cultivate, study and observe the plant, as well as make a creative work.

Regulations and the description of the contest can be found in the site “Contests”.
